Tonya Russell, MD, has accepted the position of Medical Director of the Maritz Lung Center, effective January 1, 2024. Dr. Russell is Professor of Medicine, Co-Director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic, Co-Director of the Lymphangioleiomyomatosis Clinic, and Co-Chair of the Clinical Care Committee within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Russell received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and her MD from the University of Florida College of Medicine. She pursued her Internal Medicine residency and fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. She was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2004 and rose to become Associate Professor of Medicine in 2009 and Professor of Medicine in 2018. She is a Master Clinician whose profound focus on teaching and mentoring is exemplified by her prior leadership as Associate Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship program from 2009-2010 and Director of the Fellowship program from 2010-2019. She has been a Faculty Representative at Large, Washington University Faculty Practice Plan Clinical Practice Committee and Board of Directors since 2022 and has been voted by peers as one of the Top Doctors in St. Louis in 2023. As Medical Director of the Maritz Lung Center, Dr. Russell will work with the divisional leadership to create new models that improve the delivery of patient care.
