In 1992, the care of adults with cystic fibrosis was transferred from St. Louis Children’s Hospital to the adult pulmonary service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Under the direction of Daniel Rosenbluth, MD, and Jeffrey Atkinson, MD the cystic fibrosis service now follows over 200 adult cystic fibrosis patients longitudinally. Outpatients are seen in the multidisciplinary Clinic that includes specialists from Pulmonary Medicine, Endocrinology, nursing, social work, mental health, and Nutrition Services. The inpatient cystic fibrosis service benefits from a dedicated hospital unit, nurses, and respiratory therapists with experience and training in caring for patients with cystic fibrosis.

Additionally, the cystic fibrosis service actively participates in clinical trials involving new therapeutics for patients with cystic fibrosis.
