Research Interests
Dr. Colleen McEvoy is a nationally recognized expert in oncologic critical care and pulmonary hypertension. She serves as the Medical Director of the Stem Cell Transplant and Oncology ICU at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, one of the few dedicated oncology ICUs in the country. In this role, Dr. McEvoy oversees the care of critically ill oncology patients, including those undergoing advanced treatments like stem cell transplantation and CAR T cell therapy. Her leadership has transformed the unit into a national model for managing complex oncologic cases, emphasizing multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based care protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Dr. McEvoy is also deeply engaged in research focused on critical care outcomes for oncology patients, particularly those undergoing novel therapies such as CAR T cell treatment. Her work has advanced the understanding and management of serious complications like cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity, both of which are common in CAR T cell therapy recipients.
In addition to her work in oncologic critical care, Dr. McEvoy is an expert in the field of pulmonary vascular disease. She manages patients with complex pulmonary vascular disease, contributing to the program’s status as a Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA)-accredited Center of Comprehensive Care. She is part of the multidisciplinary PH team in the care of patients with pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure.
Her ongoing research interests include:
- Improving outcomes for critically ill patients receiving CAR T cell therapy and other immunotherapies
- Developing predictive models for managing complications such as CRS and neurotoxicity
- Advancing treatment protocols for pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure
- Leading national and international collaborations in oncologic critical care research
Dr. McEvoy is also a dedicated educator, providing mentorship to advanced practice providers, fellows, and other trainees in both pulmonary and critical care medicine. Her contributions to patient care, research, and clinical education make her a respected leader in the fields of oncologic critical care and pulmonary hypertension.
