Clinical and Research Interests

James Krings, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Originally from the St. Louis area, he completed fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University. During his fellowship he studied the management of asthma and received a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree. Prior to Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and his medical school at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California.  Dr. Krings clinically works in the medical intensive care unit and pulmonary clinics at Barnes Jewish Hospital/Washington University.

Dr. Krings’ research is focused on finding ways to improve the care of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He has studied and published on the use of advanced quantitative imaging in asthma and been involved in several pharmaceutical trials studying the use of biologic medications in asthma. Specifically, through the Mentored Training in Implementation Science (MTIS) program, he is also interested in studying novel implementation strategies to improve inhaler adherence.
