The critical care medicine pathway offers a 24-month program and a 12-month program. Rotations for both programs consist of 4-week blocks and allow for three weeks of vacation annually. The majority of rotations take place in Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s intensive care units.

- Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) – BJH South Campus
- Stem Cell Transplant/Oncology Intensive Care Unit – BJH North Campus
- Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
- Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CT-ICU)
- Neurologic and Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NNICU)
24-month program
The 24-month program will have the following blocks divided over the course of the 24 months, for a total of (26) 4-week blocks:
1st year: 8 required ICU blocks
- 83/84 MICU: 4 blocks (16 weeks)
- 7800: 1 block (4 weeks)
- CCU: 0.5 blocks (2 weeks)
- NNICU: 0.5 blocks (2 weeks)
- SICU: 1 block (4 weeks)
- CTICU: 1 block (4 weeks)
- Vacation: 1 block (4 weeks)
- Elective/research: 3 blocks (12 weeks)
- ICU Back-up: 1 block (4 weeks)
2nd year: 6 required ICU blocks
- 83/84 MICU: 3.5 blocks (14 weeks)
- 7800: 0.5 blocks (2 weeks)
- CCU: 0 weeks
- NNICU: 0 weeks
- SICU: 1 block (4 weeks)
- CTICU: 1 block ( 4 weeks)
- Vacation: 1 block (4 weeks)
- Academic/ Research: 1 block (4 weeks)
- Elective: 4 blocks (16 weeks)
- ICU Back-up: 1 block (4 weeks)
12-month program
The 12-month program will have the following blocks divided over the course of the 12 months, for a total of (13) 4-week blocks:
- 83/84 MICU: 4 blocks (16 weeks)

- CTICU: 2 blocks (8 weeks)

- NNICU: 0.5 blocks (2 weeks)
