The critical care medicine pathway offers a 24-month program and a 12-month program. Rotations for both programs consist of 4-week blocks and allow for three weeks of vacation annually. The majority of rotations take place in Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s intensive care units.

The majority of rotations take place in Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s intensive care units.

24-month program

The 24-month program will have the following blocks divided over the course of the 24 months, for a total of (26) 4-week blocks:

  • 7 blocks of MICUs (combination of MICU and Stem Cell Transplant/Oncology ICU)
  • 1 block of CCU
  • 5 blocks of SICU
  • 4 blocks of CT-ICU
  • 1 block of NNICU
  • 1 block Interventional Pulmonary and Palliative Care (2 weeks each)
  • 3-4 blocks of research (research may be extended to a full 7 blocks if desired)
  • 3-4 blocks of elective

12-month program

The 12-month program will have the following blocks divided over the course of the 12 months, for a total of (13) 4-week blocks:

  • 5 blocks of MICUs (combination of MICU and Stem Cell Transplant/Oncology ICU)
  • 1 block of CCU
  • 3 blocks of SICU
  • 2 blocks of CT-ICU
  • 1 block of NNICU
  • 1 block of Interventional Pulmonary and Palliative Care (2 weeks each)
