Research Interests

Patrick G. Lyons, MD, MSc, is an intensivist and healthcare delivery scientist with specific interests in clinical research informatics, risk prediction modeling, communication, and learning health systems. His current research involves (1) creation, evaluation, and implementation of risk prediction models for hospitalized patients with cancer, (2) leveraging health information technology to improve care transitions for high-risk inpatients, and (3) human-centered design of health information technology and inpatient care delivery systems.

Dr. Lyons obtained his MD with honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. Subsequently, he completed Internship, Residency, and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago followed by Clinical and Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. During these fellowships, he earned a Masters’ of Science through Washington University’s Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI). Subsequently, as a Fellow in the BJC HealthCare | Washington University Healthcare Innovation Lab, he earned a certificate in Human-Centered Design for Healthcare from the Parson School of Design in New York.
