Critical care services are provided in two separate intensive care units at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The North Campus has a 10-bed acute care unit under the direction of Warren Isakow, MD. The south campus has a 19-bed acute care area under the direction of Marin Kollef, MD. These units provide specialized care for patients with diseases affecting the function of various organs. The use of life and organ supporting technologies are routinely applied including mechanical ventilation (to support failing lung function), hemodialysis (to support failing kidney function), and medications to correct abnormal blood presure and heart function. Additionally, the medical intensive care units support all other services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, including transplant services, in order to provide state of the art support for these patients.
