Ongoing Research Support

R01 HL32815 3/1/00-2/28/04
NIH/NHLBI
Lung Perfusion by Positron Emission Tomography
Overall goals: The specific aims of this grant are to determine the mechanisms responsible for the physiologic and biochemical synergistic effects of low-dose endotoxin with experimentally induced acute lung injury, to determine the relationship between changes in lung cyclooxygenase 2 expression and lung arachidonic acid utilization and increased prostacyclin production in patients with ARDS, and to determine the impact of specific thromboxane receptor blockade on pulmonary capillary pressures and extravascular lung water accumulation in patients with ARDS.
Role: PI

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Quantification of Pulmonary Neutrophil Activity in Cystic Fibrosis using Radiolabeled Fluorodeoxyglucose and PET Imaging.
Overall goals: The major goal of this study is to determine the potential utility of using PET imaging to monitor pulmonary inflammation in patients with cystic fibrosis. Role: PI
